Play review – “The Grenade” by Tony McNamara (STC production November 2010)

An intriguing initial situation and some very funny lines but no real story or point. Garry McDonald is a political consultant who loves his wife and children and is good at his job and doesn’t really have that many enemies so when a grenade turns up in his living room, who really cares? You’re not likely to. McDonald apart some of the acting in this was appalling and it was flabbily handled with scene transitions which went on forever. I’ve got to say the audience liked it but with STC audiences that doesn’t mean much.
