Soundtrack review - "Almost Famous: the Musical"

Not the soundtrack to the film but the score for the musical. This is fun, I didn't mind it. Collection of original songs which are fine, and some recogniseable tunes like 'Tiny Dancer', 'Ramble On' and 'Fever Dog' (the last being written for the film). Not sure how it would go on stage. Reviews weren't great but you can't rely on them.

My favourite musical soundtracks for this century

 (haven't seen most of them)

1) Hamilton

2)Shane Warne

3) Waitress

4) The Producers

5) Hairspray

6) Matilda

7)The Last Five Years

8) The Light Stop in the Piazza

9) Avenue Q

10) Book of Mormon

Musical soundtrack - "Golden Rainbows"

Listened to this because of the discussion about this in Wiliam Goldman's The Season. The songs are quite good, very well sung. The opening track is a banger and there's catch ballads. You can see this being fun. I'm sure Goldman's comments on the book were accurate.

Soundtrack review - "Johnny Handsome" (1989) ****

Ry Cooder did plenty of superb scores for Walter Hill - this was one of his best. Cooder was obviously inspired by the film's southern setting and reacted with an atmospheric, pungent score. The main theme is beautiful but the real stand outs for me were the rocking "Clip Joint Rhumba" and "Cajun Metal" (these tunes just say "Walter Hill movie" for me - tough, swaggering pieces) and the achingly lovely "I Like Your Eyes". The album is more consistently successful than the film.
