Movie review - "The VIPS" (1963) ***
An enjoyable glossy film, very much in the old-style MGM tradition. Although the Richard Burton-Liz Taylor story is most prominent and Margaret Rutherford won an Oscar for her part, the other two stories are more interesting: Orson Welles and Elsa Martinelli make an entertaining duo, and Maggie Smith and Rod Taylor are touching in their roles. Rod seems to grapple with his Australian accent at times, but he is very likeable and is particularly strong in his scenes with Smith (who steals the film).
