Movie review - "Hotel" (1967) **1/2
A film whose main problem is the fact that its stories are not all brought together the way they were in the far more successful Airport. Another problem is the hotel itself – admittedly beautiful, there’s no escaping it is owned by a man (played by Melvyn Douglas) who does not want black people as guests, and has an elevator so dilapidated it causes the death of one of its passengers. Is it really a tragedy that such a place be shut down? But it does have advantages such as colour photography, a glossy look, and movie stars (even if mostly second-rate ones).
