Movie review - "Point of Betrayal" (1995) **

An entertaining film, well worth seeking out for those interested in a solid thriller. Rod Taylor plays Ted Kitteridge, the second husband of wealthy widow Laura (Dina Merrill). Laura’s son from her first marriage, David (US football star Rick Johnson) is livid at the thought of a step-father possibly causing him to miss out on his inheritance, so he hires a nurse, Monet (Rebecca Broussard) to send mum insane, a la Gaslight . This is a sound story and there are man interesting touches, like a house built entirely underground. Rick Johnson makes a loathsome villain, a millionaire playboy so desperate to hold on to his inheritance he poisons his own mother (indeed, one cannot help wishing he got more of a come-uppance at the film’s end). Cusack and the sultry Brousset offer good support; Rod and Merrill are excellent, particularly during the scenes where she starts to lose their sanity. The ending is extremely touching.
