Movie review - "36 Hours" (1964) ***1/2

An exciting thriller with dense plotting and plenty of intelligent twists and turns. Characters are constantly thinking other characters will do something, then think it’s a trap, then changing or not changing so they will not think it is a trap. All the actors are first-class, particularly Rod Taylor as the (extremely sympathetic) German doctor. He is so likeable and his plan so audacious, that at times you find yourself hoping that the Germans will pull it off. The main drawback of the film is that it feels too long, going on for an extra sequence after the Normandy invasion is no longer in danger.
