Movie review - "Meet the Wildcat" (1940) **1/2

Really fun Universal B which benefits from brisk Arthur Lubin handling and a spirited performance from Margaret Lindsay as a photographer in Mexico on the trail of an art thief. She's convinced it's Ralph Bellamy in a rare lead.

The film would have been better off with a different actor to Bellamy - it needed someone who was more obviously a thief. Warren William or someone.

It takes place on a backlot Mexico with Allen Jenkins as a cab driver and support actors like Joseph Schikradt. It's high spirited fun - with a better male lead (Bellamy doesn't do anything wrong he's just miscast) this would've been a classic.
