Movie review - "Honeymoon Limited" (1935) *1/2

Arthur Lubin's third film suffers from being for Monogram - the limited budget, poor cast - but is actually decent fun for the first bit, helped by strong performances from the girl (Irene Hervey) and the two kids. The plot has Neil Hamilton, Commissioner Gordon from Batman, walk across the country for a bet... but because that would be expensive he winds up at a house with a girl and two kids. There's some crooks after money and a guy with glasses.

The story eventually sinks under implausibility - it's based on a bet, he has to walk but hangs around a house, I wasn't sure what the guy in glasses was doing. The crooks are fun but I think they just stuffed this storyline. There's a massive contrivance in that the girl turns out to be the daughter of the publisher. What's the point of the stupid plotline of turning the hotel into a place for honeymooners?

Lots of scenes in mid shot as if Lubin was doing it for speed. Hamilton isn't that great.  It's a shame - after a strong start this just got dumb.
