Movie review - "The Absent Minded Professor" (1961) ***

Disney have always been a highly conservative studio politically, but even at their whitest period they weren't afraid to give a few digs to society. This film for instance pokes fun of colleges who buy sports stars, and the military Fred MacMurray is ideal in the title role and he is well supported; Nancy Olsen is very likeable as his fiancee, Keenan Wynn an expert villain and Tommy Kirk has a small role as Wynn's dopey son. The special effects still succeed in raising a laugh and there are some genuinely clever moments, such as the camera work when Wynn is bouncing up and down and the cut at the end for "I do". The film was a large hit. It was poorly colourised.
