Script review – “Sacred Cow” by Joe Eszterthas

Eszterhas can be funny but one suspects he doesn’t have the chops to write a full length comedy – an assertion backed up by this one joke tale about a president who is one of those dream Democrats – handsome, principled, caring, popular, smart, sexy, etc – and who has sex with a cow. He’s a pants man president, which Eszterhas seems to think is a minor flaw – I do too to be honest… but he also seems to think having sex with cows is funny. Which it kind of is, but not enough over 90 minutes. Not enough happens – they try to blackmail the president with pictures, he refuses, he takes off for a bit with his estranged wife, the news hits the media,India get upset, he drops in the polls, rural voters come to his rescue. Also the fact is the president rapes the cow – it’s not as though the cow consents. His daughter points this out but her point of view is dismissed with her father pointing out she’s easy and it’s never deal with again. The president is a rapist. There are some funny bits (it would make a great short along the lines of Gene Wilder and the sheep episode in Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex But Where Afraid to Ask) but not enough story.
