Radio review - Ford Theatre - Ep#39 "Arrowsmith" (1948) **
Little known actors in the lead but John Houseman did the adaptation. It only deals with his relationship with his first, devoted wife - the uncomplaining nurse (well, she complains a little) who just wants to be there for him and dies while helping him fight plague. The book was influential when it came out - it's depiction of a tortured, devoted doctor unsure whether to chase money or the joy of pure research was much imitated, as was the crusty elder Jewish mentor and devoted nurse wife.
