Book review - "Swinging Dors" by Diana Dors (1960)

This first of what was to be many memoirs from Diana Dors. It reads like you'd expect - warm, funny, full of gossip. The strength is the depiction of Dennis Hamilton her first husband who was a real character - he gives the book real oomph. If dramatising her life you'd pick their relationship.

It ends in 1960 with her happily married with a new child. That arrangement wouldn't last.

She doesn't talk overly much about her films. A little - I wish there had been more. There's not even much about making Yield to the Night. Talks a bit about stage work including her variety show act which is fair enough. Its livened up by cameos from people like Frank Randle and Robert Lippert. She refers to a lecherous star at Rank who "played an explorer" - John Mills? She denies having an affair with Rod Steiger.

The writing style feels inconsistent. Some chapters feel like rehashed articles for the Daily Mail or something. But entertaining.
