Movie review - "Escape from Alcatraz" (1979) ***

No-nonsense prison escape story with Clint Eastwood given one of his best roles as the prisoner who led a possibly successful escape from Alcatraz. Don Siegel's direction is toughter and tighter than Eastwood's tended to be; there's an excellent support cast including Pat McGoohan as the warden and Fred Ward as a fellow escapee.

The details of life on Alcatraz and how the escape was planned and executed are very gripping. There's a homosexual villain who wants to shank/shag Clint a lot of the time.
