Movie review - "Easy Living" (1937) ***1/2
Although Sturges didn't direct this film his fingerprints are all over it (he wrote the script) - shenanigans amongst the rich, rapid rise to fame, pratfalls and slapstick, a great array of character actors. Full of joyous coincidences and a light but effective plot - a fur coat falls on Jean Arthur, everyone thinks she's Edward Arnold's mistress, she falls for his son (Ray Milland). Arthur is very likeable - all the cast are. I didn't buy the stock market crashing and rising so easily - didn't feel real. I know that might have been the point but it felt shallow. Bright fun and it doesn't go for too long either.
