Movie review - "The Future" (2011) **1/2
Miranda July’s follow up to You Me and Everyone We Know needs a better title, something more catchy and quirky. It’s a light, unique little tale about a couple in their 30s whose relationship is threatened when they both quit their jobs (call centre and dance teacher). He door knocks for an environmental organisation, she starts an affair, they have a cat who is being operated on and who narrates a lot of the movie quite effectively). Some classic lines such as when July wishes she was one notch prettier so she was definitely pretty instead of having to make people work to think she is. July is very talented and has a real vision and voice; it’s not one I particularly responded to but it made a nice change from bad Hollywood movies.
