Absolutely worth remaking. They got the two leads right and a lot of it perfectly right. The first forty minutes or so is superb as Bradley Cooper and Lady Ga Ga meet and perform and fall in love. The stars are on form, there's excellent concert scenes.
After that the quality drops a little - Cooper's performance doesn't really go beyond combing back his hair and growling (that is an over simplification but not super much of one). Ga Ga is charismatic but her acting has its limits. A lot of scenes seem shortened and/or extraneous - did we need David Chappelle's character?
But it's a film of heart and love. Cooper adores actors - characters feel full realised. It's a film that unites heartland USA with progressive coastal types - mind you the marriage is ultimately doomed, so...
A very good movie. I loved the way the media became obsessed whether the leads were having sex- a glorious throwback to the old star system.

Did you not review the Lux radio versions? There are two: a 1930s one with Janey Gaynor and a 1940s one with Judy Garland, which inspired her to do the 1950's remake.
I don't think so but I reviewed a Ford Theatre version. I should check out the others though!
