Book review - "Sir Quixote of the Moors" by John Buchan (1895)

John Buchan's first novel isn't very long but it is hard going. It's about a Frenchman in Scotland in the late 17th century who falls in love with a woman who is engaged to another. It feels like the subplot to a longer novel - there is some decent action when the Frenchman goes on the run to start off with (it's the time of the Convenanteers) but there's not nearly enough of it. Written in a florid style it's pretty dull.
