Movie review - "Shame" (2011) ****

Excellent follow up from Steve McQueen to Hunger is a similarly visually striking, confronting work with Michael Fassbender in strong form as a sex addict. Because he's handsome, in shape, has all his hair and a good job, lives in New York and owns a big cock it's not too hard for him to find ways to scratch his itch - sometimes he pays, other times goes to clubs, usually he just picks up.
Carey Mulligan is effective as his wasted, messy sister who brings the unwanted real world into his cloistered existence of sex, internet porn and solitude. While the lifestyle clearly has it's attractions, it's also depicted as being sad and destructive. I liked the open ending where you weren't sure if he'd go back to his old life or not.
