Movie review - Corman #38 - "The Haunted Palace" (1963) **1/2

Part of the AIP/Corman/Poe cycle, though actually based on a story by HP Lovecraft – they use the title “Haunted Palace” from a Poe poem and throw in some lines from it at the end. It doesn’t matter because it feels like all the others, and has a terrific story.

Vincent Price is in good form as the ancestor of a warlock whose spirit is taken over by said ancestor, as the townspeople watch on. Lon Chaney is always good to see, the mutants are a treat, and the atmosphere appropriately creaky.

Some genuinely scary moments, mostly involving Debra Paget walking around the house on her own.
