Ben Hecht co-wrote this combination of cynicism and sentiment with Joseph Cotten as a gangster who finds himself masquerading as a minister. Cotten isn’t the first actor you think of to play a gangster, but he does okay. (Vincent Price apparently played the role later on - I can't hear him as a gangster either.)
