Arthur Kennedy isn’t Henry Fonda but this is a decent adaptation of the famous play. Full of warm touches and insight that continually leap cliche – it feels completely real - a clear influence on
Operation Petticoat. You can see why this was so popular, it rings very true, with its depiction of military life: boredom, petty tyranny of the captain, seeking excitement and breaking the rules, etc.
